Subbuteo World Cup
How long ago..?
“Following a break of (possibly as long as ) 18 years, the fabulous four got together once again to participate in an historic event, THE Subutteo League Subbuteo World Cup Finals 2006! After the digging out of teams, some successfully, some not, the contestants were ready to do battle…”
So let's have a website for this thing!
Spookily, it’s another 18 years since this event happened. It’s another instance where I bought a domain and hosted the HTML (and Flash) site for several years. I can’t recall when I let it lapse, but have dug out the old thing for one last hurrah. Flash is no longer desirable on the web, but a quick Google showed me Ruffle, a neat workaround that needs little configuration. Clicking on the Flash animations even recreates the sounds. All the images and files are there – all hand made for state-of-the art hi-res 1280 * 1024 monitors. (except for Steve’s ex and her garbage eyesight)! Site is HERE, or click the image below.
All my Subbuteo stuff is now in the top of my wardrobe. I remember going on a bit of a buying bender after this tournament. Rugby and cricket boxed sets, along with several football bits and bobs. To what end – I have no idea! Who am I ever going to have a game with?! My kids aren’t going to show any interest, but they may smile when they clear all my crap out once I’m gone – especially if they’re worth a few quid! I understand Steve went similarly bonkers; eventually recreating a whole stadium (which I always imagined would make playing much more difficult – bit like playing snooker on a table with a shed load of lego piled up around the sides).
But the million dollar question is, did I purchase Subbuteo Angling? I must go and check the top of that wardrobe…
